Ann WilsonParticipantTelehealth Program to advance Pediatric sexual health
Telehealth Model: I would like to use videoconferencing and also store and forward for this program and for consults if needed to refer to an OB/GYN or other specialists. Videoconferencing will allow me and other PNPs to interact with our patients.
Equipment: Videoconferencing for appointments on a computer, smart phone or tablet.Store and forward for any labs done, and EMR.
Population: My focus would be on pediatric population, especially adolescent females who have started their periods as well as sexually interested/active adolescents and young adults to provide education about sexual health and answer questions or concerns they may have.
My role: I would make appointments with kids/adolescents who have any questions or concerns about their cycles, about puberty and about sexual health in general. We can set up appointments to come in for labs (blood and urine), if they are interested in getting on birth control, hormonal therapy, and have any questions about sexual health.
Evaluation: I want to improve the education in the pediatric realm about the stigma of sexual health and make kids and adolescents confident in talking about their health, making them know it’s ok to talk about it and that whatever is said is confidential. I want more kids and adolescents making smarter choices that are better for them and their future and reduce STI’s.
Legal considerations: HIPPA of course and based on age, the ability to make decisions. Also, parents involvement/insurance coverage.
Other Professions: I would like to have referrals to OB/GYN offices for involvement as well as an Endocrinologist if it is more hormonal based.
Protocols: Maintaining HIPPA, providing confidentiality as long as it is safe, post visit follow-up, especially if medication is prescribed (antibiotics, birth control, etc), follow up with referrals, and also a billing protocol.
Consent: I would obtain consent from the patient or the patient’s parent if under 16 years of age.
