In my current as a Nurse Coordinator for a Behavioral Health Crisis Center specializing in mental health crisis along with alcohol and opioid detox capabilities we offer services via telehealth during the weekend. These telehealth services include videoconferencing. If I had the say, I would allow for these services to be used more vigorously especially during the time we do not have psych providers on duty to see patients although we are 24/7 facility. During these telehealth visits, patients who are dual diagnosis could have the best of both worlds. Patients would be required to sign a telehealth communications consent form acknowledging that they consent to the face to face videoconferencing. Nursing staff as well as medical assistants would play a great role in assessing and act as guides for the actual provider encounter. I would evaluate the program by asking for feedback via the clients.
