-The telehealth model I would use is both videoconferencing and mHealth. I like this combination because it allows me to not only track how my patient is doing from afar. However, it also allows me to hear directly from them if there are any issues, and it enables me to answer and receive any questions promptly.
-Items needed are a computer with a built-in microphone, a phone with the mHealth app, and any other apps used to track health measures, and communication software such as Zoom.
-I like working with college athletes; this combination of tools can help me monitor their workouts while they’re at home for any reason, such as over winter/summer break.
-As an Athletic Trainer, I would use telehealth to help the athlete through their rehab and meet with them to check on progress and make changes as necessary.
-I would use constant communication to ensure the athlete is happy with my levels of communication and feedback. I would also ensure that the athlete is satisfied with the quality of what they are receiving. Other data I could use to ensure that my rehab plan is working is progress notes to make sure that the telehealth style is working.
-Other members of the healthcare team to include are the school physicians, PTs, strength and conditioning coaches, and any counselors or behavioral health experts the school has.
-I would be very careful to obtain consent from each athlete, and explain what is going to happen and what to expect from a telehealthcare system.
-This would allow me to provide quality care to the athlete that is centered around the athlete’s goals, even from afar.
